Iconicity in Language and Literature

2005 Krakow

Fifth Symposium On Iconicity In Language And Literature

17-20 March 2005

Unesco Chair For Translation Studies And Intercultural Communication
The Jagiellonian University
Krakow

The meeting in Krakow will be the fifth in a series of international symposia on iconicity in language and literature. Iconicity, i.e. form miming meaning and/or form miming form, is an inherently interdisciplinary phenomenon, involving linguistic and textual aspects and linking them to visual and acoustic aspects. Therefore, we invite academic contributions by not only linguists and literary scholars, but also scholars whose interest lie in the relationship of the verbal with the musical or visual arts. Papers are expected to present detailed case studies of iconically used forms on all levels of linguistic, musical and visual representations and in all varieties of their use. The conference language will be English, but papers may be given in Polish, with simultaneous interpreting provided upon request. The publication of the selected papers given at the symposium will be in English. For more information on previous symposia, and on the 'iconicity project', see our homepage (http://home.hum.uva.nl/iconicity)

We welcome proposals addressing any of these issues. Abstracts (not more than 500 words) together with a brief c.v. should be sent to one of the following address by 15 November 2004 at the latest:
